How to Use Tap to Pay on iPhone

Whether you’re selling at a trade show, a farmer’s market, or a street fair, with Tap to Pay on iPhone, you can accept all types of in-person, contactless payments right on your iPhone1—no extra hardware needed. It’s easy, secure, and private.

Before you start, you’ll need:

  • A Canadian bank account  
  • A compatible iPhone*  
  • To sign up with a participating acquirer and enable Interac Debit Tap to Pay on iPhone 
  • A partner-enabled iOS payment platform app from Adyen, Moneris, Stripe, or Square downloaded to your iPhone (iPhone XS or newer model running the latest iOS)

Here’s what to do:

  1. When your customer is ready to check out, open the enabled iOS payment app on your iPhone, input the transaction amount and present your iPhone to the customer.

  2. Your customer can then pay by holding their card horizontally or device at the top of your iPhone, over the contactless symbol, for a few seconds.

  3. When you see the “Done” checkmark, this confirms the card read is complete and the transaction is being processed.

1Tap to Pay on iPhone requires a supported payment app and the latest version of iOS. Update to the latest version by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap Download and Install.
