Tell us about yourself
My name is Mohit Sirpal, and I am a Senior Data Governance Specialist at Interac on the Chief Data Office team. I moved to Canada 4 years ago from New Delhi, India. Outside of work, I enjoy playing badminton and hiking, where I discover the most beautiful trails. I’m also a bit of a foodie and enjoy trying different cuisines.
What does a typical day at Interac look like for you?
As a data governance professional, I am responsible for overseeing the management, quality, privacy and security of data within Interac. My core responsibilities involve creating and maintaining data governance policies, processes and practices that ensure data is accurate, reliable and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements. I also serve as a liaison between business, functional areas, and technology teams to ensure that data related to business requirements are clearly defined and communicated.
You have worked at Interac for 2 years, can you share more about your journey here so far?
It’s been an incredible journey of growth and learning. As part of the data governance team, I have worked closely with the majority of teams at Interac.
One of the most rewarding aspects has been witnessing the evolution of our company culture. We’ve fostered an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration and inclusivity.
I’m excited about the innovative opportunities that lie ahead for myself and for Interac. Alongside other teams here, I look forward to what we’re able to accomplish in innovating payments and verification solutions.

As part of Data & Analytics team I work with incredibly talented individuals who are as passionate about data as I am.
Data governance is an evolving field, and we need to stay updated with changing regulations and best practices, which can be personally fulfilling.
Creating and implementing best practices for data management can lead to a sense of accomplishment, especially as these practices contribute to improved business outcomes.

What does being part of the South Asian Network Employee Resource Group (ERG) mean to you?
The South Asian Network ERG is a great initiative at Interac that celebrates and supports the diversity and culture of South Asia.
It’s an opportunity to connect with colleagues who share similar backgrounds, experiences, and interests.
What is a piece of advice you would give to other employees looking to get involved in an ERG?
Getting involved in an ERG at Interac can be a great experience both personally and professionally.
It’s a space where you can learn from each other’s experiences, perspectives, learn about different cultures, and insights to contribute to a more inclusive work environment.
My advice is to be proactive in attending events hosted by ERGs, participate in discussions, and engage with other members of ERGs throughout the organization.
