What is your name and job?
My name is Deepesh Mukundan, and I am an Implementations Manager at Interac
What does a typical day at Interac look like for you?
Each day welcomes me with a different opportunity to provide value to our internal teams and external customers. A bigger chunk of my day-to-day function is to help our Interac e-Transfer Participants with their implementation efforts, ranging from troubleshooting issues, providing technical overviews of our product specifications as well as collaborating with their teams to ensure the timely execution of project deliverables. I also work closely with the Product and Technology teams at Interac to identify opportunities to create value and enhance the experience for our end customers through better design, operational stability and a seamless transactional experience.
What is your favourite part of your job?
The favourite part of my role is the problem-solving function. There may be occasions when Participants report issues that block their implementation efforts. Whether it be on my own, by leveraging my product expertise or collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors, taking ownership of those problems and driving them to a resolution is what I enjoy doing.
You recently played a pivotal role in the launch of Interac e-Transfer for Business. What was your experience like working on that project? What does it mean to be a part of such a milestone in Canada’s journey towards modernized payments?
Working with our Participants and helping them integrate the latest features of Interac e-Transfer for Business has been one of my career highlights here at Interac. Although COVID-19 impacted some of our timelines, it also gave us deeper visibility into potential business use cases as we observed a shift in consumer behaviour and the growing demand for a digital, fast and secure payment options.
This milestone is the outcome of diligent planning and effective execution efforts driven across many cross-functional teams at Interac, coupled with our Participants’ co-operation and trust in Interac as a brand.
I feel privileged to have been a part of the journey in modernizing digital payments at Interac. Interac e-Transfer for Business, with features like real time confirmation, account number routing, higher transaction limits, and ability to include remittance information, effectively addresses payment challenges businesses face. It has a great potential to positively impact the overall day-to-day payments experience for commercial customers, irrespective of the nature and size of business.
I can’t wait to witness how Interac e-Transfer for Business strengthens the role Interac plays within the Canadian payments space.
What comes to mind when you think about your journey at Interac?
It has been an incredible journey at Interac so far with great opportunities that have helped me learn and grow from the point I started my career in Canada. For someone who has not had extensive experience in the payments space, it has been rewarding to collaborate and learn from experts in this industry. I am proud of my contributions and the great work we have done so far with the many prominent payment products in the Canadian market.
What makes Interac a unique place to work?
Interac is small yet mighty. We already have a prominent presence in the Canadian payments space with products like Interac e-Transfer for Business, Interac Debit, Interac Debit for e-Commerce payments and Interac Debit for Contactless payments, which have been widely accepted across the nation. Moreover, with many new and exciting products in the pipeline being designed to cater to the unique and growing customer needs, the opportunities to grow and develop our careers within Interac seem endless.
What is an interesting fact about you?
Post high school, I pursued dance courses specialized in the Hip Hop dance form and I used to teach Hip Hop and B-Boying forms in summer & year end breaks. Although I got pulled away from dance to earn a degree and build my professional career in IT, I am looking forward to bringing it back into my lifestyle and pursue it as a fulfilling hobby.
