Over the last several years, Interac has enhanced its offerings to employees to support their well-being, and both personal and professional development — which in turn helps them be even more effective as they work to lead Canadians to digital prosperity.
The efforts have paid off, with outside organizations recognizing Interac as an employer of choice due to its supportive, flexible environment, data-driven commitment to diversity and inclusion, and strong culture of community engagement. As Sudha Dwivedi, Chief People & Culture Officer at Interac shares, “these programs help employees to be fulfilled, healthy and productive.”
Interac has been named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for 2025 by Mediacorp Canada Inc. — for the fifth consecutive year. This recognition comes following the recertification of their Most Admired Corporate Cultures Award from Waterstone Human Capital, which recognizes organizations’ recruitment strategies, employee growth, diversity and inclusion, among other criteria. Interac was also named among the Top 50 DEI Teams in the 2024 OnCon Icon Awards. And last spring, the company made LinkedIn’s Top Companies in Canada for 2024 list, which recognizes organizations whose workplace culture promotes growth, innovation and inclusivity.
“These recognitions reinforce the work we’ve done to create an inclusive, innovative and values-driven environment,” said Dwivedi, who joined Interac in September. “It’s a true testament to how we foster a workplace where everyone can be their best, most authentic selves.”
It’s a culture that enables Interac employees to serve as engaged citizens, too.
Working at Interac
Making Interac a sought-after workplace includes a commitment to offering comprehensive benefits, like health and wellness benefits and RRSP contributions that are 100 per cent company-paid (as in, employees don’t have to share in the cost).
For many employees, the company’s supportive work environment is another highlight of a career at Interac. This means extra-long wellness weekends, shortened summer hours and personal days that give employees a chance to rest and recharge.
“I love, love, love Summer Fridays,” said Arushi Babhuta, a Product Management Specialist, who appreciates getting an early 3 p.m. start on the weekend. “When my parents visited from India, helping them explore Ontario was very dependent on my Summer Fridays.”
Engaged employees for stronger communities
Interac workplace culture isn’t just about healthy, fulfilled, and productive employees. It’s also about building a stronger Canada. Community engagement is a key part of the experience of working at Interac — which means opportunities to take a break from one’s desk to go support those in need.
Interac employees are especially engaged in impact-oriented programming that helps Canadians — notably equity-deserving groups — build their financial and digital confidence. For example, Interac worked with community partners to launch Mindfulness and Money, a program that supports diverse entrepreneurs and other Canadians as they build financial confidence and digital literacy skills. To date, more than 380,000 Canadians have benefited from financial literacy programs that Interac supports.
Creating a positive work culture also means offering robust employee development opportunities, hand-in-hand with a dedication to advancing diversity and inclusion.
In 2024, Interac launched their Count Me In campaign, a data-centric initiative that helps them understand potential gaps in internal growth and development and the talent acquisition by demographic.
Through a collaboration with ACCES Employment, women at Interac can connect with and mentor women who are newcomers with tech skills, with the aim of nurturing their careers in a new country. Interac also partners with community organizations like Conscious Economics and other corporations to work toward addressing gender-based pay inequity.
“We’ve been recognized for our data-driven approach to diversity, equity and inclusion, which is at the heart of how we continue to shape a culture where everyone’s voice is valued and heard, and employees can bring their true selves to work” Dwivedi said.
Working for a more prosperous Canada
Sudha noted that working at Interac comes with the satisfaction of knowing that what we do here matters. The more productive we are, the more we’re contributing to a new era of digital prosperity for all Canadians. When our employees are energized by the healthy corporate culture here at Interac, they’re better able to help other Canadians get more out of life — “ultimately, that’s our mission,” she said.
“Our positive, inclusive, engaged work culture not only supports local communities, but it also enables employees to perform their best in their work. And that work is all about empowering Canadians to participate in the digital economy and a digital world. We’re a team that works tirelessly to make life easier for all Canadians.”
