The arrival of the 2020s heralds a whole new decade of transformative change, not just in the arena of payments but in technology, finance, and even in our economy and society. Accordingly, we’ve seized this opportunity to take stock of the most important changes we’ve seen in the past decade and to reflect on the broader trends that we think will unfold over the decade to come: the spread of digitization and the growing importance of the customer’s holistic experience; the critical importance of security and privacy and the impending emergence of government-back digital identities; the decreasing visibility of payments and the growth of platforms that will convert and exchange a much wider range of units of value (loyalty points, credentials, currencies, etc…) – and beneath it all, of course, the ever-present and ever-important principle of trust.
