Interac recently partnered with Alectra Utilities and IBM on a three-month pilot project to provide utility customers with real-time monetary incentives for making energy efficient choices.
This project leveraged the Interac payment network – used by Canadians and average of 16 million times daily – and employed blockchain to connect all the project partners securely and efficiently.
The end result was a program that allowed customers to quickly and easily earn rewards, helping the utility manage the peaks and valleys of energy demand, and benefitting the environment.
This video explains how the project worked and how its success could have huge implications if scaled up and introduced across different sectors in Canada.
