Time is money for most merchants. With Interac Flash, you may be able to save both. Interac Flash, the contactless enhancement of Interac Debit, makes everyday debit purchases faster and more convenient than traditional chip and PIN transactions, benefiting both you and your customers. By accepting Interac Flash, you will be able to provide your customers with a faster check-out experience while reducing your costs of handling cash. As an enhancement of Interac Debit, Interac Flash is also an economical payment solution and offers the same benefits of secure and irrefutable transactions with no charge-backs.
Interac Flash allows customers to pay for purchases less than $100 quickly, securely and conveniently using funds from their bank account. Customers can make contactless debit transactions at merchants across Canada – wherever they see the Interac Flash logo on readers at checkout.
Your customer’s Interac chip debit card will continue to carry out traditional Interac Debit transactions, but the functionality of the card has been enhanced to also conduct contactless transactions. Cardholders will have the option of paying for items less than $100 using Interac Flash.
The customer simply holds the debit card in front of the supporting reader at the point-of-sale and the purchase will automatically be debited from the customer's account. They do not need to insert the card or enter a PIN. As an added layer of security, there are single transaction and cumulative spend limits in place. Once reached, cardholders must validate themselves by inserting their card and entering their PIN, just as they would conduct a regular Interac Debit transaction.
By accepting Interac Flash, merchants continue to receive the benefits of secure and non-refutable transactions, including no chargebacks associated with PIN-based Interac Debit, while offering their customers a fast and convenient check-out experience. Interac Flash has all of the security features of Interac Debit, plus additional security features as a contactless payment technology:
To offer Interac Debit to your customers, your first step is to contact a participating Acquirer or payment service provider. An Acquirer or payment service provider operates card-accepting devices, such as Interac Debit terminals at the Point-of-Sale, which capture and transmit relevant data needed to undertake a transaction through the Interac network to the Issuer.
